Don't Go Back

Peter had his life planned with Jesus, but when Jesus was crucified Peter decided to "go back" to fishing. Fishing ended when the resurrected Jesus met them on the shore and restored Peter to one of His disciples and reminded him of his purpose.

This sermon explores the progression of spiritual growth from being a believer to becoming a true disciple of Christ, using Peter's journey as the primary example. Pastor Jolie emphasizes that after Jesus's death, Peter returned to his old life of fishing—a place of comfort and familiarity—rather than trusting in God's plan. The message challenges believers to avoid retreating to old habits and comfort zones when facing disappointment or uncertainty. Instead, Christians are called to press forward in faith, trusting God's provision and direction. The sermon stresses that true discipleship involves complete commitment, continuous obedience, and the responsibility of leading others to Christ. The pastor uses personal vulnerability regarding recent job loss to illustrate how believers must walk by faith, not by sight, and resist the temptation to rely on their own understanding when plans fall apart.
