Chasing the Blessing
This sermon explores the life of Jacob and his relentless pursuit of blessing through his own efforts, when God had already ordained blessing over his life from before birth. Pastor Jolie challenges believers to stop chasing blessings through their own manipulation and instead pursue God Himself with wholehearted devotion. Through Jacob's wrestling with God at Peniel, we learn that true blessing comes through genuine encounter with God, repentance, and obedience. The sermon emphasizes that God desires our hearts more than our sacrifices, and that lasting peace, joy, and provision come not from pursuing what God can give us, but from pursuing who God is. We must be willing to let God search our hearts, remove anything that displeases Him, and walk in full obedience rather than partial compliance. The transformation that comes from a face-to-face encounter with God changes us from the inside out, just as Jacob was renamed Israel and walked with a limp as a reminder of his encounter with the Divine.
